Sridhar Rangayan will be speaking at two panel discussions at the Human Rights conference which is being held as part of WorldPride 2017 at Madrid, Spain. The panel discussions are ‘Asian View’ on June 27th and ‘Film and Culture Representation’ on June 28th. He has also been invited by the Mayor of Madrid for a special reception on June 28th at the historic Cybele Palace (Palacio de Cibeles). Rangayan will also march in the Pride Parade on July 1st.

“It is a great privilege and honour to be invited to participate in World Pride 2017 which promises to be an extravagant synergy of art, culture and activism. I will be speaking about both the legal and social environment at present in India that impacts the LGBTQ community here, as well as talk about how films can play an important part in breaking stereotypes and creating positive awareness. The WorldPride offers a global stage to voice our concerns”, said Rangayan.

“It is time our voices are heard loud and clear. I am not only talking about voice of LGBTQ community, but also of Indian, South Asian and People of Color LGBTQ communities”, he added.

He will be presenting trailers from his film BREAKING FREE and EVENING SHADOWS at the conference and will also be speaking about KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival, of which he is the festival director.
Rangayan last year was one of the grand marshals who led Montreal Pride alongwith Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

WorldPride Madrid 2017 is the global LGBTIQ Pride festival which will showcase hundreds of activities by and for the LGBTQ community – art, film, sports, discussions, performances, parties – culminating with the World Pride Parade, which will be the world's largest Pride parade ever!

The panel on Asian View will attempt to shed light on the LGBTQIA+ reality of all parts of the world, with a special focus on some of the troubled regions in Asia where discrimination against LGBTQ community is still very prevalent.

The panel on ‘Film and Culture Representation’ will focus on how cultural representation of the LGBTQIA+ community has bolstered its visibility, and has long served as an outlet for its members. But still in regions like Asia and Africa, representation of LGBTQ community in mainstream culture is still scarce. The panel will examine the history of representation and the way ahead for mainstreaming LGBTQ voices.
