Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan officially launched film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom in India during a special screening at a suburban theatre in Mumbai on Wednesday evening.

“It is a privilege and honour to launch this film in our country because of the man who was encapsulated in this film, his contribution to the world and strong belief in equality,” said Big B. The film stars British actor Idris Elba in the role of Mandela and also features noted actress Naomie Harris as Winnie Mandela. While Elba and Harris were not present, supporting actress Terry Pheto, who plays Mandela’s first wife Evelyn Mase, graced the event along with co- actor Atandwa Kani.

“I was born in the ’80s and grew up on his stories. It is part of history and legacy important to me. My character is that of a woman who no one knows much, hence it was a beautiful challenge,” said Pheto.
