Whistling Woods International’s (WWI) School of Fashion & Costume Design captivated audiences at Bombay Times Fashion Week 2024 with Aiyanna Reimagined: Couture Evolution, a dynamic collection blending traditional techniques and modern innovation. With showstopper and alumnus Pavail Gulati bringing glamour and charisma to the event, the showcase not only highlighted the future stars of fashion but also underscored WWI's commitment to sustainable fashion and philanthropy. Featuring stunning women’s evening wear and men’s festive attire inspired by India’s rich textile heritage, the showcase celebrated cultural diversity and social impact, with proceeds directed towards Organ India. The event was a testament to WWI's dedication to nurturing talent and contributing to meaningful causes through cutting-edge fashion design and innovation, resonating with fashion industry professionals and influencers alike.
Mumbai, October 24, 2024: Whistling Woods International’s (WWI) School of Fashion & Costume Design presented Aiyanna Reimagined: Couture Evolution, a breathtaking showcase of creativity and craftsmanship, at Bombay Times Fashion Week 2024. The evening was made even more memorable when Mr. Subhash Ghai, Founder & Chairman of WWI, joined actor and alumnus Pavail Gulati on the runway, lending an additional touch of prestige and significance to the occasion. The event celebrated the talent and innovation of WWI’s emerging designers while also contributing to a meaningful cause through the school’s CSR initiatives.
Aiyanna Reimagined: Showcasing Tradition with Modern Flair
The evening commenced with a fashion film, showcasing the collection’s inspiration and creative process. The WWI fashion students' ability to create such impactful visuals is a testament to the filmmaking background and prowess that sets them apart, providing them a distinct advantage in presenting their creations.
Acclaimed actor and WWI alumnus Pavail Gulati took centre stage as the showstopper, bringing elegance and charisma to the collection. His presence elevated the showcase, embodying the sophistication and modernity that defined the evening’s theme. The showstopping garment, a standout creation from the collection, will be auctioned, with the proceeds directed towards Organ India, reinforcing WWI’s commitment to social responsibility through fashion.
Meghna Ghai Puri, President, WWI, shared, “At WWI, we empower our students to push boundaries and challenge conventions. This year’s showcase was a powerful demonstration of their ability to merge traditional techniques with modern innovation. What makes it even more meaningful is that through our CSR initiative, the event will contribute to a greater cause, using fashion as a platform for social impact.”
The collection featured Couture Women’s Evening Wear, with exquisite, high-fashion pieces that shimmered with every movement, embodying timeless elegance and contemporary sparkle. Additionally, the Men’s Indian-Inspired Festive Wear collection drew from India’s rich textile heritage, blending tradition with bold, contemporary designs that celebrated the diversity and cultural richness of Indian fashion.
Fashion for a Cause: Social Responsibility on the Runway
Jewellyn Alvares, HOD, WWI School of Fashion & Costume Design, expressed pride in the students’ work, stating, “The creativity and passion that our students brought to the runway is a true reflection of their dedication to the craft. Students have used new techniques in developing innovative silhouettes and structures, and Aiyanna Reimagined: Couture Evolution is a testament to the talent we nurture at Whistling Woods International.”
Reflecting on his role, Pavail Gulati shared, “Walking the runway for my alma mater was a special experience, and this showcase was truly remarkable. The creativity, craftsmanship, and vision of the students were exceptional, and I’m honoured to have been part of it. Knowing that the proceeds from the auction will go towards a meaningful cause makes this event even more impactful.”
The event was attended by several esteemed guests from the fashion industry, including representatives from brands such as Raymond, Westside, Spykar, Purple Style Labs, AZA, Style Union, along with costume designers and fashion journalists, among others.
