58% Disabled SC/ST Kids Not Schooled

While most parents shuttle between different schools as the admission season gets underway, for some families educating their children is not a choice - they have to help their wards overcome not just multiple physical disabilities but also battle socioeconomic implications of their caste. A survey undertaken by the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD) found that nearly 58% of the children who come to them do not attend schools. All of them belong to either Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes.
