Clad in blue saris, a group of eight eunuchs are educating commuters, pedestrians and motorists about traffic rules and the importance of adhering to them. They are also informing women what precautionary measures they should take while travelling in a public transport. Deputy Commissioner (East) Kunal, the brain behind the initiative, said, “People often violate traffic rules. This leads to traffic disruptions and accidents. The eight eunuchs have been trained to teach road safety lessons from 3-8 pm daily at key intersections on the busy Vikas Marg.” As a pilot project, the east district magistrate has hired the services of the eunuchs from NGO Pahel Welfare Society, and the team has been named ‘Hum hai Abhaya’.
