As bitter Arctic air continues to spill east, temperatures will plummet to below 0 over the Tug Hill plateau through the overnight hours. Factoring in the winds, it will feel like 10 to 15 degrees below. That bitterly cold air being pushed over Lake Erie, which is relatively warmer than the air temperature, will create instability and in turn will form snow bands. Those snow bands will hammer places likeWatertown, Lowville and the surrounding areas. At times snow could be as intense as 3 inches per hour, creating near whiteout conditions. Through overnight hours as much as two feet of snow are possible under the heaviest bands.
