Panels Should Be Proactive In Curbing Child Rights Violations

With crimes against children rising every year, a senior Supreme Court judge has urged the national and the state commissions for protection of child rights to play a proactive role to deal with the violations. According to Justice Madan B Lokur, even after a decade of constitution of these commissions, there is still not enough awareness about their role and the various areas that they look into. "The national as well as the state commissions are quasi-judicial bodies and they must use these powers for the benefit of the children," Lokur said, while addressing a national workshop for the protection of child rights, held in Gurgaon on Saturday.
