Rs 5 lakh per ward for sanitation

However, sanitation is their basic function and allocating extra funds for it raises questions on how this money will be spent. “Keeping the city clean is corporation’s duty. Allocating Rs 5 lakh for each ward for cleaning work is nothing but just a way to make money” said a Congress councilor. But BJP leaders in the corporation reason that under their sanitation drive, they are removing more waste from the roads, for which extra resources are needed. “We are repairing all toilet blocks and plan to deploy our operator to ensure they are properly maintained. Since the private concessionaire has gone to court, toilets aren’t maintained,” said Subhash Arya, leader of the House, South Corporation. He added that the extra cost incurred for repairing and maintaining the toilet blocks will be charged from the private concessionaire later.
