Shishir Sharma and Mona Ambegaonkar star in a powerful queer drama, Kuch Sapney Apne. Directed by Sridhar Rangayan, the much-anticipated film will release on February 21. The #Newsdesk reports…

The highly anticipated emotional and thought-provoking queer drama Kuch Sapney Apne is set to hit theatres across India on February 21st. Described as "a rich emotional landscape where love, betrayal, and redemption intertwine," the two-hour film has recently received a UA certification, making it suitable for audiences aged 16 and above.

Stellar Performances and Meaningful Themes

In her powerful role as Vasudha, a mother grappling with the complexities of having a gay son, Mona Ambegaonkar delivers a performance filled with raw emotion and depth.

She says, "Kuch Sapney Apne, to me, was a continuation of my journey as Vasudha from Evening Shadows, but it stemmed from an evolution away from the earlier Vasudha. The Vasudha in Kuch Sapney Apne is more empowered, yet anchored deeply in each member of her family, all of whom challenge and surprise her in their own ways."

"The greatest lesson that Vasudha has taught me is that love and acceptance will overcome all challenges, and that sometimes going off the path that has been charted for you by tradition or societal norms is a far better journey than staying on a path that stunts your growth as a person and your empathy as a human being," she added.

Shishir Sharma takes on the role of Damodar, a traditional patriarch struggling to reconcile his conservative beliefs with his family's shifting dynamics. He shares, "Kuch Sapney Apne symbolizes and reinforces the bonds that are so needed in today’s times. It’s a very poignant and important film in the context and times we are living in, especially emphasizing the need for not being a hypocritical society."

"My takeaway from this film, without any doubt, is the fact that I was privileged to work with actors who were extremely serious and conscientious in completing their work. It was also the energy that rubbed off from each actor, which is so rarely seen on a set," he added.

Having worked with Mona Ambegaonkar for more than 30 years in several TV serials and three films, and with Shishir Sharma in several TV series, director Sridhar Rangayan said, "It is a delight to work with such amazing actors who bring not just their craft to the project but also a lot of love, nurturing it like their own baby. This brings a level of authenticity that will resonate with audiences. Their dedication and passion shine through in the film, and I’m confident that viewers will connect with the film’s emotional depth and realism."

A Visionary Filmmaking Team

Kuch Sapney Apne is helmed by National Award-winning director Sridhar Rangayan, with Saagar Gupta co-directing and penning the film’s dialogue and lyrics for its three soulful songs. The film is set for a wide release in PVR Cinemas across major cities, including Mumbai, New Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and Trivandrum, starting February 21.

Alongside Ambegaonkar and Sharma, the film also features a talented ensemble cast, including Satvik Bhatia and Arpit Chaudhary as a gay couple navigating the struggles of love and acceptance, and Abhay Kulkarni, Veenah Naair, Yamini Singh, and Yateen Karyekar as key family members. The film’s evocative soundtrack, with songs by Vishal & Rekha Bhardwaj, Shaan, Shashwat Singh, and Sushant Divgikar, perfectly complements the poignant narrative.

"Having worked with Sridhar and Saagar during my TV days, I also think we have grown in our outlook towards cinema," said Sharma. "I have been endlessly enriched by the work I have done with them over the many years of our association," added Ambegaonkar.
